Chapter 21: Adventurers are more dangerous than monsters
Chapter 21: Adventurers are more dangerous than monsters
As Ronan and his companions stepped into the tavern, a familiar aroma of malt wafted towards them.
Malt spirits are the most common type of liquor; you can smell them in every tavern.
The liveliness of the Friendly Arm is no less than that of the Elf Song Tavern.
The four of them went to the counter and booked a room.
The room rate was very expensive, and Ronan didn't know if it was because the rooms were in high demand that the price was raised.
Just as Ronan was complaining about the high room rate, a waiter immediately and attentively took Ronan and his party's luggage.
It must be said that the service at Friendly Arm is truly excellent, no wonder it attracts so many tourists.
Suddenly, Ronan felt the room rate was more reasonable.
Afterwards, the four agreed on a time to meet the next day and went upstairs to rest.
Ronan and his three companions all had rooms on the third floor. Each room was about 30 square meters and included a bedroom and a separate bathroom.
Apart from its outdated architectural style, its layout is almost identical to that of its predecessor.
Inside the washroom, there is a fountain outlet from which spring water flows continuously, presumably another work by the Gonde believers.
The spring water is warm to the touch, making it suitable for washing.
But the friendly arm could clearly offer Ronan a better option—
After the waiter put away the luggage, he said to Ronan, "Sir, if you would like to take a bath, please let us know. We provide free hot water service."
This was clearly something Ronan hadn't expected.
In that instant, he felt that the exorbitant room rate was somewhat reasonable.
Ronan immediately instructed the waiter to call someone to prepare hot water for him.
Before long, several burly men arrived, carrying steaming buckets of water, and emptied three-quarters of the bath tub in the washroom.
After the burly man left and the door was locked, Ronan took off his clothes, got into the bathtub, and began to enjoy himself.
When the water was getting cold, he got out of the bathtub, dried himself off, changed into clean clothes, went downstairs to eat a meal, and then returned to his room to begin his cultivation for the day.
……
Ronan practiced until dawn the next day, then took his steel greatsword and dagger and went downstairs.
The timekeeping system in Faerûn is almost identical to that of my previous life.
There are clocks in this world, which allow people to know the time of day they are in.
At this point, there were hardly any people left on the first floor of the Arm of Friendship, and there were no waiters there to serve guests.
When Ronan went down to the first floor, Seras was already waiting for them.
After greeting Seras, the two remained silent, gazing at the dark blue sky outside the door.
Besides Ronan and Seras, there were other adventurers on the first floor, who were also clearly waiting for someone.
I guess they also wanted to harvest silver thistle.
There were five other adventurers present, and Ronan looked at their panels.
There are three warriors who haven't even reached the professional level yet: a level 1 rogue and a level 1 barbarian.
Seeing that the five men posed no threat to them, Ronan immediately turned his gaze back to the dark blue sky outside the door.
As the sky gradually brightened, the dark blue was slowly replaced by azure.
Ramirez and Cuthbert haven't arrived yet. Ronan is actually very interested in the Underdark and would like to talk to Therath about it.
However, firstly, he didn't know if Seras was willing to mention the Underdark, and secondly, there were other people nearby.
The fear is that some of these people have good hearing and can overhear their conversation, thus revealing their identity as Therath Drow elves.
This is not Baldur's Gate. If Therath were to expose his identity here, he would likely be besieged by a group of professionals.
So Ronan had no choice but to give up and wait while silently circulating his Qi in the Zhou Tian Yin Qi Jue (a method of circulating Qi throughout the body).
He channeled the surrounding energy into his meridians, transforming it into true qi, which then returned to his dantian.
A few minutes later, the monk Ramir and Reverend Cuthbert came down one after the other.
Once the four of them were together, they set off together.
Before setting off, Cuthbert glanced at the adventurers behind him without making a sound.
Once the four of them had left the inn and were far away from the adventurers behind them, Cuthbert said, "After entering the forest, be careful of wild monsters, and also be careful of other adventurers."
"Sometimes, adventurers are even more dangerous than monsters. This place is close to Baldur's Gate, and you have no idea what the adventurers' beliefs are. They might be followers of the three gods of death, or they might be followers of Shar."
Upon hearing this, Seras asked, "So, Mr. Steel Star, what should we do if we encounter other adventurers?"
This small team was still led by Cuthbert, who had the most experience in adventure.
Therefore, the other team members, especially Seras who had less experience adventuring on the surface, would listen to Cuthbert's opinion.
Cuthbert said, "The advantage of our team is our strong mobility. Whenever we encounter adventurers, we simply avoid them."
"If adventurers chase us, we'll run as fast as we can. That's one of the reasons I pray to the Goddess of Wealth for 'running fast'."
"As long as we run back to the Friendly Arm Inn, the guards of Friendly Arm will protect us."
The other three team members nodded in agreement; clearly, Cuthbert's suggestion resonated with them.
This is why the four of them can work together so well.
Because their preference for danger is almost identical.
The four then set off into the Cloak Forest.
To conserve spell slots, Cuthbert did not use "Great Stride" to travel.
Ronan and his two companions also slowed their pace to avoid expending too much energy on Cuthbert.
Because they also rely on Cuthbert to unleash "divine guidance".
After walking for about twenty minutes, they arrived at the Cloak Forest.
By this time, it was gradually getting light, but the trees in the Cloak Forest, which were still lush and leafy in winter, blocked out the sunlight, giving the forest a gloomy appearance.
To prepare for this mission, Cuthbert prepared several bottles of Dark Vision Elixir and kept them in his dimensional bag.
The forest is inhabited by monsters and other adventurers. They cannot use lighting tools or lighting spells, otherwise they will reveal their location and put themselves in danger.
Ronan possesses divine light within him, while Seras has dark vision, allowing him to see everything.
The visibility in the forest is currently acceptable, and although Ramir and Cuthbert lack dark vision, they can still roughly see what's nearby.
Silver thistle typically grows in bushes, with silvery-white leaves about the size of a finger, making it easy to spot even in low visibility conditions.
They walked slowly on the outskirts of the forest, and Cuthbert had specially changed into a pair of soft-soled boots so that he could walk without making a sound.
The four walked silently for a while, and finally found a patch of well-grown silver thistle in a thicket.
Of the four, only Cuthbert had learned the harvesting technique. So, while the other three stood guard, Cuthbert stepped forward, took out a flowerpot and a shovel that he had prepared in advance from his dimensional bag, and carefully dug up the wild silver thistle by the roots and put it into the flowerpot.
As Cuthbert previously stated, alchemists who commissioned the tasks were paid based on weight and quality.
To better harvest Silverleaf Thistle, Cuthbert asked the alchemist many questions. After asking, he was able to roughly estimate that one Silverleaf Thistle could be exchanged for an average of 20 gold coins.
There are 6 silver thistles in this patch, so there are probably around 120 gold coins here.
After Cuthbert finished picking all six plants, the four of them went off to explore in another direction.
