Chapter 14 A One-Man Girl Band
Chapter 14 A One-Man Girl Band
Two more days passed after we set off again.
Chu Sheng has finally started to get used to the bumpy ride in the carriage; at least he no longer gets carsick.
In the adult world, numbness can sometimes be a form of reconciliation.
Ella refused to step into the carriage again, skipping and hopping around the four Pegasus horses like a fool.
At first, the four celestial horses would snort impatiently, but later they probably resigned themselves to their fate and let her do whatever she wanted. Occasionally, they would lower their heads and nudge her head with the bridge of their noses.
So Ella proudly announced to Chu Sheng that she and the Pegasus were now good friends.
Of course, this was only Ella's opinion; the Pegasus members neither confirmed nor denied it.
During this tedious and boring period of the journey, Chu Sheng did not remain idle.
He needs to catch up on his lessons.
This was Arthur's insistence, and her reasoning was quite sound: "You, a respectable imperial squire knight, are completely ignorant of the rules and common sense of the empire. If you go to the heart of the empire, it won't just be you who loses face."
Thus, the daily journey became an additional crash course in basic imperial knowledge.
"Recite what I taught you yesterday." Arthur sat upright at the helm, reins in hand, eyes fixed straight ahead. "What's the full name of the Empire?"
"Well……"
Chu Sheng frowned, gazing at the slowly moving clouds on the horizon, lost in deep thought: "Is it Azeroth? Or Astra?"
Snapped!
Arthur, frustrated and disappointed, lashed out with his whip, striking the winged horse's rump.
Tianma looked back at Chu Sheng with a resentful expression.
"It's Arthus!" Arthur pressed, unwilling to give up. "What is His Majesty's name?"
Suddenly, a series of incomprehensible drumbeats echoed in Chu Sheng's mind, and at the same time, a plastic chair covered in rotten tiles slowly appeared.
He blurted out, "Virgil III!"
Arthur and Pegasus both nodded in satisfaction.
Just then, Ella came running back excitedly.
She ran to the carriage, pointed to the road ahead, and her dog ears twitched on her head: "Chu Sheng, Arthur, someone's singing up ahead!"
Chu Sheng and Arthur exchanged a glance, then fell silent and listened intently.
Sure enough, a faint, melodious song drifted over from ahead. The sound was sometimes clear and sometimes indistinct, as if someone was singing alone in a very, very far place.
Chu Sheng squinted, trying hard to make out the syllables.
Pressure Noko wash his mouth more wide Noyo oh sticker...
He shook his head violently.
No, no, I must be hallucinating.
"He must be a passing bard."
Arthur listened for a while, then continued driving forward as if nothing had happened. With a gentle tug on the reins, the Pegasus resumed their unhurried pace.
"Ignore it, there's no danger."
Ella obediently gave an "oh," but her pace noticeably slowed down, and she stopped running forward as carefree as before.
She walked close to the carriage, her tail perked up slightly in alertness, her ears still uncontrollably turning towards the direction from which the singing was coming.
The carriage continued along the road for several hundred meters, and the singing became increasingly clear.
The crowd looked in the direction of the sound and saw a figure leaning lazily against an old tree, humming an unknown tune and casually plucking at the lute in his arms.
The sound of the piano and the singing blended together, and it could be considered pleasant to the ear.
The figure caught a glimpse of a carriage approaching from the end of the road and immediately stood up. She tucked her lute under her arm, freed one hand to wave it wildly, and bounced around on the floor.
It wasn't until the carriage got closer that Chu Sheng finally saw what the person looked like.
She was a girl with a rather peculiar appearance.
Her skin was light gray, while her hair was emerald green, braided into a thick plait that hung down from the back of her head to her flat chest.
But what's most striking are her ears, long and pointed, sticking out from the sides of her head, swaying as she jumps, like two willow leaves.
"Hey! Kind person! Look here!"
The girl raised her hands high, bouncing up and down like a little spring, her voice clear and bright.
"How come there are elves here?" Arthur frowned slightly, surprised.
"Elves? Aren't elves all giant, fair-skinned, blonde big sisters? How come there are gray ones? And so flat?" Chu Sheng was shocked, feeling his beautiful fantasy about elves shattered.
I don't want that kind of mundane thing!
Arthur rolled his eyes at him, annoyed. "It's a grey elf!"
As they were talking, the grey elf girl had already run up to the carriage.
She wasn't very tall, only reaching about Chu Sheng's chest. At that moment, she was tilting her head back, curiously observing Ella, who was baring her teeth and blocking the front of the carriage.
Her gaze swept over Ella, finally settling on a certain magnificent and spectacular spot.
The grey elf girl looked down at her toes; there was no obstruction.
Then her gaze fell on Arthur.
The scenery was magnificent, the curves like the most precipitous mountain range in the north of the empire, undulating and majestic.
The grey elf girl raised her head, her gaze passing over the two mountain peaks and looking up at the vast sky.
Then she smiled freely.
"Ha, worldly possessions."
"Who are you?" Arthur remained vigilant, scrutinizing the small figure before him. "Why is the Grey Elf here in a place like this instead of staying in the Sacred Tree Forest?"
The grey elf girl carefully bypassed Ella, walked up to Chu Sheng, looked him up and down, and then nodded with satisfaction: "My name is Silverleaf. I'm on my way to the Empire. I'm part of the Girls' Band."
After saying that, she shut her mouth and straightened her chest.
Chu Sheng waited for a long time, but there was no further news.
"Huh? That's it? What position did you hold in the girls' band?" He turned to look behind Silverleaf, then at the bushes on either side of the road. "Where's your band?"
Yinye patted his chest with a "bang!", gave himself a thumbs-up, and raised his chin high.
"I am the band!"
Chu Sheng looked constipated, Arthur looked constipated, and Ella, though not quite understanding, also looked constipated.
This was a survival skill she learned from Chu Sheng: when everyone has the same expression, following suit is always a safe bet.
Seeing that the others didn't believe her, Yinye became anxious and started rummaging through the ridiculously large backpack on her back.
"Look! A recorder!"
A wooden recorder was held above the head.
"Lute!"
The violin that she had been carrying under her arm was also lifted high.
"Hand drum!"
She pulled out a small drum covered in leather.
"Harmonica!"
A silver harmonica glittered in the sunlight.
"And—the harp!"
Finally, she pulled a harp from her backpack that was almost as tall as herself.
"No, wait a minute."
Chu Sheng raised a hand to stop her. His expression shifted from confusion to seriousness, from seriousness to anger, and from anger to heartbreak.
"How can you play so many instruments at the same time by yourself?"
Chu Sheng's voice trembled.
"You're so self-centered! How can a one-man band be called a girls' band, you idiot! Don't underestimate the bond between these beautiful girls!"
Yinye's little nose wrinkled slightly, and a few fine lines appeared on the sides of her nose.
"So what if I am!" she raised her voice. "Giving up your individuality is no different than being dead!"
Upon hearing this, Chu Sheng's expression turned extremely serious. He slowly stood up from the front of the car, looking down at the small, dusty-looking man in front of him.
"Are you prepared to be in a band with yourself for life?"
Yinye slammed her harp to the ground with a serious expression. Sunlight shone from behind her, gilding her emerald green braids with a golden edge, and her long, pointed ears became translucent outlines in the backlight.
"I am already prepared to give everything for the girl band."
Snapped!
Chu Sheng and Yin Ye simultaneously reached out and clasped hands tightly. They shook their hands vigorously up and down, and tears even welled up in Chu Sheng's eyes, while Yin Ye's nose turned slightly red.
Chu Sheng turned around and said earnestly to Arthur:
"Arthur, I think this child is telling the truth; she really could make it to the martial arts gym."
