Chapter 24 Family
Chapter 24 Family
After staring at the dark, illusory, and unreal road behind the mirror for a moment, Cyril suddenly reached out and pressed it. To his touch, he still felt the cold, flat mirror surface.
The dark passages behind the mirrors seem to belong to a different world, separated by an insurmountable membrane.
"In this situation, a mirror should also be considered a type of wall, and the 'Apprentice' specializes in fixing all kinds of walls."
As he spoke, a layer of dark blue ripples suddenly spread from his palm, undulating across the mirror surface and painstakingly weaving together an illusory door, a door connecting to the world within the mirror.
The moment he reached inside to explore, a chilling feeling suddenly ran through him; it seemed as if the world in the mirror was watching him.
He instinctively withdrew his hand and closed the "door" on the mirror.
"What a terrifying feeling! It's far more frightening than the gazes I felt at the Twilight Hermit Gathering."
"While the Twilight Hermits may have meant me no harm and were simply curious and inquisitive, the visceral tremor I felt just now, and the gaze cast from the mirror world, definitely belonged to beings at least at the angelic level."
"Is the mirror world of this world really that dangerous? Why are those witches, who seem to travel through it all the time, still alive and well? Could it be that the one who cast that gaze just now was actually a witch?"
He muttered to himself for a while, then glanced warily at the mirror in front of him before taking the mop and broom back to his room.
He had a premonition that for some time to come, he would likely develop a psychological aversion to mirrors.
After cleaning up the dust from the tablecloth and scrolls, before he could even rest, he heard the doorbell ringing from downstairs.
The person knocking at this time would most likely be his sister Beth Gray and his nephew Thomas.
Cyril stiffened as he went downstairs to open the door. Whether in the past or present, whether on Earth or in this world, he was never good at dealing with children.
Upon opening the door, two faces, one large and one small, one serious and one playful, came into view.
The child, barely taller than his knee, wore a well-fitting children's suit, a silk bow tie around his neck, and his light golden hair was meticulously combed, making him look like a young old man.
At this moment, he had one small hand on his chest and the other behind his back, tilting his head back and bowing slightly to Sir Ryan, making a less-than-perfect gesture of greeting:
"Good morning, Uncle Sirion!"
"Good morning, Thomas Jr."
Cyril smiled and nodded at the little boy, then picked him up in his arms.
Then he looked at the other woman in front of him, who was not very old, but had a stern and serious expression. She wore light makeup that highlighted her mature temperament, and a black soft hat with a thin veil hanging down her head. Her facial features were about four-tenths similar to his.
Noticing his gaze, the other person's already stern and serious face darkened even more.
Cyril smiled nonchalantly, stepped aside to make way for them to enter the room, and stroked little Thomas's head in his arms as he said:
"Little Thomas will only turn 3 next month, so there's no need to rush to raise him into an old-fashioned gentleman. Children should act like children."
In his arms, little Thomas, though young, was already quite mature and nodded in agreement.
Ever since his father, who was always busy with work, suggested his education to his mother, he only had one hour a day to play with his toys, and even his favorite sweet tea and bread were restricted in their eating habits and standards.
He's still a child who's half a month shy of being three years old!
"His father and I sincerely hope that Thomas will become an outstanding young man like his Uncle Harvin."
"When you and Havin were three years old, he was already able to clean up the messes you made."
Beth glanced at him, then led two servants carrying exquisite gift boxes into the house.
Cyril: (╯‵ᗨ′)╯︵┴─┴
This is my older sister; I can't get angry or talk back to her, so that my living allowance won't be reduced next year.
But he couldn't help but mutter to himself, "All that training was done with great care and effort for Ha Wen. Without my interference, would he be as outstanding in every aspect as he is now?"
Beth, who was walking ahead, paused for a moment, almost losing the serious and rigid expression she had been trying to maintain.
Composing herself, she turned around and scrutinized Sirion's face with a critical gaze, then said in a tone of disappointment:
"In some ways, Havin is indeed not as good as you."
Before Sirion could speak, little Thomas, whom he was holding, blurted out, "That's right, that's right, Uncle Harvin never plays with me!"
Beth turned her head with a stiff face, then quickly walked towards the kitchen at the back of the restaurant. She felt that if Thomas and Cyril stayed too long, the elite education she and her husband had planned would be in trouble, and she needed to have Harvin come out and keep an eye on them.
.....
Meanwhile, above the gray fog, inside an ancient palace that resembled the dwelling place of giants.
Klein leaned back in the high-backed chair at the head of the mottled long table, gazing at the deep red star representing Cyrene above the boundless gray fog.
For some reason, he kept thinking about this guy who recited the names of gods and hidden beings like a rhyme these past two days. It was as if a voice in his heart was urging him to pay attention to this person and establish a connection with him.
"Is this a revelation from my spiritual intuition, or am I being influenced by some unknown being or force?"
After whispering for a moment, he conjured up his usual citrine pendant in his hand, intending to perform a divination first.
A few minutes later, Klein breathed a slight sigh of relief as he looked at the pendant in his hand, which was rotating counterclockwise at a constant speed.
"I wasn't affected by anything unknown, and there was no danger in contacting him, so was my previous feeling a hint from my spiritual intuition?"
"Should we pull them directly onto the gray fog, or play it safe?"
After hesitating for a few seconds, Klein finally decided to play it safe, since he had previously seen the other party in contact with a person who was suspected of being a hidden entity.
Having made his decision, he immediately extended his spirituality and touched a deep red star that was faintly shimmering deep in the gray fog.
.....
Backlund, Queens, inside a sizable luxury castle.
A beautiful, blonde girl with blue eyes and a pure and elegant demeanor sat quietly on a swing in the garden. A large golden retriever squatted in front of her, and the two communicated peacefully and harmoniously.
The next second, a thick gray fog appeared in her vision. Before she could react, a magnificent figure, faintly visible within the fog, appeared before her from above, and at the same time, she heard its voice:
"A task: Find him, investigate him, but don't disturb him."
"It should be noted that he has been cursed and has had direct contact with a mysterious entity. The level of danger of the mission is unknown."
"This task is not mandatory; you can abandon it if necessary. Under any circumstances, life is more important than anything else."
As the voice of "The Fool" reached her ears, the gray mist before her eyes churned, a deep red light appeared, and quickly coalesced into a vivid image of Cyrien.
The girl's clear eyes widened slightly as she quickly memorized all the features of the figures in the scene. Then, she respectfully nodded towards the enormous figure that was faintly visible in the gray mist.
"I understand. I will find this person as soon as possible, Mr. 'Fool'."
She saw a figure in the gray fog seem to nod slightly at her, and then the gray fog around her quickly dissipated, and everything soon returned to normal.
In any situation, life is more important than anything else... Mr. Fool seems to be a very gentle being.
"Audrey, Audrey, what are you thinking about?"
Opposite the blonde girl, the large golden retriever sitting on the ground spoke in a human voice.
Coming to her senses, Audrey looked at the golden retriever and smiled gently:
"Susie, we're going out this afternoon, but before that, you need to go see Viscount Grelint and have him contact Hugh and Fors in advance."
"No problem," the golden retriever nodded gently, then revealed a thoughtful, human-like expression:
"But Audrey, didn't you say yesterday that we shouldn't go to Viscount Grynt's place too often lately? It would affect our reputation in your aristocratic circles."
The blonde girl smiled gently, her eyebrows curving upwards, and said, "So this time we have to hide our identities."
