Chapter 379 - 222: The More Unreasonable, The More Reasonable (Part 2)
Chapter 379 - 222: The More Unreasonable, The More Reasonable (Part 2)
Su Chen felt a bit strange, wondering just how badly his training projection had beaten this guy.
Soon, the group arrived at the Taiyue Hub.
The Cyan Sect had its own station here, a large complex of buildings. It was responsible for purchasing various supplies from the outside world and served as a temporary residence.
The guardian of the Taiyue Hub was already waiting here to speak with Qing Cang and the others.
After confirming there would be no more fighting, he breathed a sigh of relief and said with a wry smile, "If something like this happens again, please give us some advance notice so we can be prepared."
’Prepared? We weren’t even prepared,’ Lin Langtian grumbled inwardly.
Qing Cang gave them the identification number of the Meteor they had occupied, telling the people at the Taiyue Hub to contact its owner and have them seek compensation from the Bronze Sect.
"We won’t rest for long. We’re departing immediately to return to the Sect."
Lin Langtian announced after taking care of these miscellaneous matters.
The others had no objections. After briefly packing up, they headed to the docking port and boarded a small spaceship bound for the space outside the Taiyue Hub.
"Is that a fleet?"
A short while later, Su Chen stared at the fleet suspended in the starry sky and was secretly amazed. No wonder they had to take a small spaceship to get here.
A fleet of this size naturally couldn’t enter the Taiyue Hub’s docking port.
It wasn’t a particularly large fleet, just a small one. The warships’ hulls weren’t smooth metal plates but complex surfaces composed of countless gears, mortise-and-tenon joints, and etched inscriptions.
Under the starlight, every line and groove glowed with an ethereal light, a mix of bronze-green patina and dark gold.
The flagship was a colossal vessel shaped like a triangular obelisk, while the escort ships on either side were spindle-shaped, their surfaces covered in Energy circuits resembling oracle bone script.
Aboard the flagship, rooms had already been arranged. The security detail was high-level, consisting mainly of Tier Four and Tier Five Professionals.
Lin Langtian looked around at Su Chen and the others. "You’ve all been through a lot. There shouldn’t be any more danger from here on out. Go get some rest."
"Yes, Chairman..." The group nodded, and Su Chen chimed in as well.
Lin Langtian hesitated, then said with a hint of resignation, "Little Martial Uncle, you don’t have to call me that."
The generational gap was too wide. He was used to addressing Qing Cang that way, but now an even younger person with senior status had appeared, and it felt incredibly awkward.
"Oh, right..." Su Chen nodded, not daring to act arrogant. The Bronze Sect divided its territory based on the Life Planets it ruled, creating seven star sectors. Lin Langtian was the Chairman of one of them, the Dubhe sector.
In terms of personal strength and the resources and power he could command, he was second only to the two Morning Star Tiers within the Bronze Sect.
The group dispersed, and Su Chen headed to his room, but he had the nagging feeling that someone was watching him.
’I think it’s that Wu Feng...’ Su Chen suddenly turned his head, but the man was staring straight ahead, speaking with Qing Cang and Lin Langtian.
’That guy...’ he muttered to himself. This Wu Feng was the Bronze Sect’s Punishment Hall Master.
When facing Hu Qi just now, he had been ready to execute him without hesitation. He seemed like the type of person who was strict and clear about rewards and punishments.
But in the current situation, Su Chen didn’t dare let his guard down.
...
「Meanwhile」
In a room somewhere on the fleet, just before they entered the Star Gate, a virtual projection gradually took shape. It was a figure in a pale gold robe, his eyes filled with weariness and indifference.
"Venerable..." The figure in the room immediately dropped to his knees, calling out in reverence.
Qin Yun glanced at the person on the floor and said coolly, "Hu Qi is getting better and better at keeping me in suspense. He can’t even come to report his achievements in person."
The person kneeling on the ground trembled. Thatched, straw-like hair fell across their cheeks as they cautiously raised their head. "Venerable... Supervisor Hu... he... he’s dead..."
The projection in the room flickered for a moment. Qin Yun’s eyes narrowed. "What did you say?"
The person on the floor spoke in a rapid-fire torrent of words, "Supervisor Hu fell for it! Qing Cang wasn’t seriously injured at all—it was a trap! Su Chen has the Ancient King’s power. The Supervisor was caught red-handed and killed on the spot."
In that instant, the projection disintegrated and didn’t reappear for a long time.
"Killed on the spot..."
Elsewhere, Qin Yun waved away the personal guards who had rushed in. The floor of the luxurious room was covered in a web of fine cracks.
His brow was tightly furrowed as he looked toward the dazzling sun in the distance and muttered:
"It should all stay within the family, so why can’t it be Lin’Er?"
"Su Chen..."
He didn’t quite understand. Did a junior brother who had been dead for years really command that much favor?
’Or could it be...’ Qin Yun seemed to have thought of something, murmuring, ’He survived the corrosion of the Deceitful God’s Power... Don’t tell me you’re entertaining the wild notion of having him...’
His voice trailed off, his expression uncertain.
...
"Yue’er..."
Lin Langtian came out of his cabin and called out to Lin Yue, who was about to leave. He brought her into his room and said nothing, simply studying her with a suspicious gaze.
"If you have something to say, just say it." A chill ran down Lin Yue’s spine; she felt her father’s gaze held some hidden meaning.
"You and that Su Chen..." Lin Langtian hesitated. "There’s nothing going on, is there?"
"Su Chen?" Lin Yue was stunned, then replied with indignant shame, "What are you thinking?"
"Then why were you in such a hurry to vouch for him?" Lin Langtian said, with a hint of warning. "That Su Chen is indeed good-looking, but his status is a bit sensitive. It’s best to keep your distance."
"Keep my distance..." Lin Yue let out a cold laugh. "No problem, dear Father. You said it yourself. Don’t you forget it."
Lin Langtian found his daughter’s attitude strange, but he couldn’t be blamed. Su Chen was bound to be entangled in a great deal of trouble. It was better to play it safe than to gamble on future possibilities.
Their Lin Family was not yet in a position where they needed to take such gambles.
Then, he asked, "The family said you were trying to contact me urgently. What was it?"
Lin Yue spoke with a deadpan expression, her voice devoid of any emotion. "I just wanted to tell you that I discovered a secret. Su Chen is very strong. I can’t beat him."
"You... can’t beat him?" Lin Langtian froze, stunned.
"How is that possible? Your Talent is far superior to his, and your combination of Professions has been meticulously selected. At the same Tier, how could you possibly lose to him?"
"You... you weren’t going easy on him, were you?" Lin Langtian suspected his daughter was deliberately exaggerating Su Chen’s strength.
"Heh..." Lin Yue scoffed. "My dearest Father, I almost forgot to tell you. It’s not just that I can’t beat him at Tier Four. I can’t win even without suppressing my Tier."
"What?" Lin Langtian’s expression changed drastically. If she had only said she couldn’t win at Tier Four, he might still have suspected she’d gone easy on him.
But to say she couldn’t win even without suppressing her Tier... that possibility was immediately dismissed.
It was so outlandish that no matter how foolish Lin Yue might be, she would never use such a lie to deceive him. This made it even harder for him to believe.
With Lin Yue’s foundation, if she couldn’t even win with a Tier advantage... just what was this Su Chen...?
"No wonder..." Lin Langtian’s expression shifted, a look of sudden realization dawning on his face. "No wonder the Great Venerable Red Flame Thunder Resonator chose him. No wonder Qing Cang stood up for him..."
"This Su Chen is no simple character. If he can overcome the shortcoming of his Talent, his future..."
He then thought about Su Chen’s lack of a background. His thoughts shifted rapidly, and his gaze fell upon Lin Yue’s slender figure. He saw his daughter standing there with her arms crossed, a cold smirk on her face as she watched him.
She seemed to have seen right through him.
Lin Langtian’s expression stiffened as he remembered what he had just said.
...
Su Chen said his goodbyes to Ming Lin and returned to his room. After locking the door, he spread his Spiritual Power out to check every corner before finally letting out a small sigh of relief.
He lay on his back on the bed, his gaze unfocused, the ceiling reflected in his pupils as the day’s events replayed in his mind.
’The Great Venerable’s Spiritual influence is too eye-catching, and so am I. Thank goodness for the Ancient King’s backup plan.’
’After the Ancient King’s warning, things should be much more stable once we reach the Bronze Sect. At least, it won’t be like this.’
’Qin Yun, Qin Tianlin...’ Su Chen’s eyes flickered. ’They are the real trouble, and it’s a huge problem that can’t be solved in the short term.’
’For now, the only way to stop them from acting against me is to demonstrate my own value.’
His mind raced as he considered how to conduct himself from now on:
’This is different from when I first arrived in Ying Feng. Back then, I had to hide carefully. Old Xia was only one of the Chief Judges and might not have been able to protect me. But now, I’m a Star Seed. My status is fundamentally different.’
’A Star Seed is supposed to be extraordinary. The more unreasonably powerful I am, the more reasonable it seems. Otherwise, on what basis would I have been chosen?’
’Looks like it’s time to demonstrate my efforts.’ Su Chen summoned his status panel and looked at the long list of Profession names on it.
