Chapter 46 Temporary Teammates
Chapter 46 Temporary Teammates
The next day.
The caravan set off.
I sat in the second row of the caravan.
House looked at the five people around him.
Sitting directly opposite House were two twin warriors with the same hair color and style, wearing the same hard leather armor, with shields placed beside them.
On the left side of the window, a middle-aged man with a faint scar on his face was intently wiping and maintaining the longbow in his hand.
Beside him sat a short-haired woman, resting with her eyes closed, silent.
She didn't have any conspicuous equipment, but without a doubt, she was the team's scout.
After all, the last person sitting next to House was a pastor dressed in a simple robe, with gold-rimmed glasses perched on his nose, who looked gentle and refined.
It is easy to tell from the sun emblem embroidered on the priest's robe that the other party belongs to the Morning Light Church.
House was somewhat surprised that "public servants" like pastors also needed to go out and do tasks to earn money to support themselves.
Seemingly because House had been staring at him for a while, the pastor put down the church books in his hands and looked up at House.
"My lord spellcaster, have I been too close to your pet and offended you?"
At this moment, Harpy, nestled on House's shoulder, was staring intently at the pastor of the Morning Light Church, his eyes filled with wariness and aloofness.
Monsters are born with an instinctive aversion to and fear of the power of holy light.
"No," House shook his head, "I'm just curious why a church member like you would take on commissioned tasks?"
Upon hearing this, the pastor adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, a gentle smile playing on his lips, his tone calm and composed:
"Your Excellency need not be surprised."
Although Morning Light Church receives church funding, it also encourages its clergy to engage in worldly affairs.
Firstly, it is to do good deeds along the way, protect travelers, drive away evil spirits, and practice and promote the original intention of the church's doctrines;
Secondly, traveling around can broaden one's horizons and allow one to experience the myriad aspects of life.
After the pastor finished speaking, he introduced himself to House and the others.
"I am Aaron, a serving priest of the Church of Dawn."
"Gauss, the spellcaster."
Out of courtesy, House responded in kind.
At this moment, the two twin warriors next to them naturally introduced themselves.
"Julian, swordsman."
"Yurik, swordsman."
The archer beside him also chimed in:
"Ian."
The short-haired woman remained silent, not immediately revealing her identity.
After waiting a few seconds, the woman slowly opened her eyes and spoke softly:
"Roland".
After the group finished introducing themselves, the slightly awkward atmosphere in the carriage gradually eased and they became more familiar with each other.
The group started chatting casually.
Among them, the Yuri brothers were the most lively. They approached Aaron one after another, curiously asking if he could heal them for free if they encountered monsters and were injured during the escort.
They then asked Ian if the scars on his face were from fighting monsters.
As they talked, their gazes both fell on Happy on House's shoulder, filled with curiosity.
"House, are you a druid? Is that a monster you've contracted? Can it assist you in battle?"
A series of questions made House frown instinctively.
Don't these two brothers understand that it's very impolite to pry into other people's backgrounds?
House initially didn't want to pay any attention to it.
But then I thought, we'll be temporary teammates for the next two days, and we'll inevitably encounter monster attacks along the way, so we'll have to fight side by side and take care of each other.
Exchanging information and details beforehand is essential for effective teamwork in battle.
"I am a spellcaster, and I came across it by chance during an adventure..."
House picked out the things he could say.
He explained that the harpy on his shoulder was a baby bird he had encountered by chance while hunting monsters, and perhaps because it was his savior, it had stuck to him.
But because it was only recently born, it couldn't even fly for long periods of time, let alone fight.
After hearing House's story, Ian, who was standing next to him, remarked with emotion:
"How lucky I am to be recognized as a mother by a monster that was just born."
As he spoke, he touched the scar on his face and said frankly that he had once tried to adopt a monster as a companion, but was ultimately betrayed by it.
The scar on my face was left by the other person.
After he finished speaking, the carriage fell silent for a moment.
It was the Yuri brothers who spoke again, breaking the awkward silence.
They introduced their skills to everyone.
Like House, the Yuri brothers, being warriors, both mastered the basic, universal skill of slashing.
Like any ordinary archer, Ian is proficient in standard skills such as [Precision Shot].
Roland, on the other hand, is a "reconnaissance" officer, capable of sensing biological activity within a certain range.
All of them possessed the most common and basic skills.
Ultimately, everyone was just an ordinary adventurer; it was already quite an achievement for them to have any skills at all.
Most adventurers don't even have skills, so when facing monsters, they can only fight them head-on, or do some low-risk gathering or errand-running tasks.
After the group introduced their skills, their attention turned to House and Aaron.
The entry requirements for spellcasters and priests are higher than those for ordinary warriors and archers, and the types of skills they can learn are also far more numerous than those of ordinary professions.
"Flame Missile"
House kept his true abilities hidden, only stating that he possessed the second-tier fire missile, without explicitly mentioning his slashing technique.
Anyway, you don't usually need it.
The remaining person is Pastor Aaron.
"I possess the abilities of [Healing] and [Purification]."
The former can act like a healing potion, restoring teammates to basic injuries;
The latter can use the power of holy light to remove magical toxins from the target's body.
To everyone's surprise, this priest possessed two skills, and the [Purification] skill seemed to be a rather rare high-level ability.
In an instant, everyone felt a greater sense of respect for Aaron.
House is the same.
A thought quietly popped into his mind.
"【Purification】Since it can remove toxins from a target's body, what if it were used on a demon?"
For example, a highly poisonous slime.
Will it be purified into a regular slime, or will it be directly obliterated by the power of holy light?
House had no answer in his heart, but subconsciously he hid Lilim, who was lying on his chest, even more tightly.
Roland glanced at House's chest, then crossed his arms and closed his eyes in thought.
The carriage swayed and bumped along the forest path.
......
Time flies.
In the afternoon, the carriage suddenly stopped.
At the same time, Roland, who seemed to have slept for most of the day, suddenly opened his eyes, flipped over, and jumped straight out of the car window next to him.
The action was so fast that no one had time to react.
Ian curiously peeked out the window, while House listened intently to the sounds outside.
Faint sounds of fighting and commotion reached my ears.
"It's a goblin."
Roland's voice rang out from outside.
