Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 789 Void

Chapter 789 Void

The immediate aftermath was nothing short of apocalyptic. The once-thriving capital transformed into a nightmarish landscape of desolation and despair. A crater, vast and unfathomable, now scarred the earth where the meteor had struck, stretching an astonishing ten kilometers wide and long.

Fissures snaked across the terrain in all directions, carving through the land like grotesque scars, further adding to the chaos and devastation. The shockwave from the impact created a devastating secondary effect, sending a massive wave of dust and debris billowing outward in all directions.

The colossal blast of dust and debris became a menacing cloud that swept across the continent, blanketing vast swathes of land with a suffocating layer of dust and ash. The ominous cloud spread far and wide, carried by the force of the explosion, reaching even the dragons who had fled the area and sought refuge in their distant territories.

Nothing survived that... the people and the warriors that stayed behind turned into dust as well. It took years for the dust to eventually dissipate and no one was able to see what had happened there... eventually, decades later people found the destroyed capital... there was nothing there. No hole, no fissures, no meteor... nothing... it almost looked like the planet had healed itself.

No one knew the truth, but the meteor pierced the land like a spear and crossed dozens of kilometers until it hit nothing for a few seconds and then fell over something else...

The area where the meteor fell was completely dark and the air was damp and dusty. One could barely see a thing around... there were no sources of light or wind anywhere. Occasionally, one would hear the sound of something smashing the grass, but nothing else...

On the borders of the meteor, one could see a pile of blood after the dust dissipated... However, before long, all the blood disappeared after being absorbed by a single ring that was still equipped on a single lone finger that escaped being destroyed by the meteor...

Many years passed and nothing happened to the ring... but eventually, Rain's conscience began to take shape inside it. Despite that, it took a while before his mind started to become active. His mind was working because his mana was active, but without his body, he didn't have any memories. He only existed without doing or thinking of anything...

"Still, I thought that I would wake up when my body was completed. Something went wrong at some point..."

After thinking for a while, Rain assumed that he didn't harness enough mana for that... or maybe he used too much during the battle. It was a bit scary that he survived like that, but it was the only thing that he was able to come up with to save himself from any kind of attack.

"There is also the possibility that the ring was damaged during the last attack... and this could be the end of me. I will be stuck here until someone finds the ring and miraculously has the ability to repair it, or I teach them."

Rain wondered what he should do... he couldn't affect the world outside without a real body. He created the ring with the sole purpose to heal himself back to life, and objects could only react to Mana when something alive was used as a catalyst.

"Well, no point in worrying about this anymore... if this is where to happen, this is my punishment for lack of skill and cowardice. Even if the dragon god can't be defeated, I could have prevented a lot of deaths by using a self destruct attack on the army of dragons... that would end the fight since his only goal was my death.

Anyway, it seems that I can feel my mana, but I can't use it to change the interior of my mind. Can I learn that?"

In the midst of turmoil and introspection, Rain found a mental refuge, a means to divert his thoughts from the tumultuous emotions swirling within him. Conscious of the weight of guilt and the haunting realization of the devastating consequences caused by two humans from Earth, he wanted a distraction, a way to occupy his mind and deflect the relentless barrage of guilty...
