Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 768: Farewell

Chapter 768: Farewell

Seadrei found himself at a loss, uncertain of how to interpret Rain’s unusual lack of energy and vigor. All he could do was hope that when the crucial battle began, Rain would regain his usual self and lead with the confidence and determination they all knew him for.

Over the next few days, around half of the people of the human kingdom moved toward the south while using the underground tunnels. The sea folk that were with them helped them move faster with their magic. Even though they couldn’t fight, all of them still could use water magic quite well, after all.

After a trip of around two days, the first group of humans and sea folk finally reached the underground shelter in the southern and forgotten area of the world. Thanks to the help of the magic people, houses, and light... they obtained that quite soon, and on the same day, they began to plant their crops as well.

Thanks to Meiro’s help and experience, things already started at an insanely quick pace, and since people had something to keep their minds busy with, they didn’t have to worry so much.

"Please, look after them while he is away, Grandpa and Grandma," Rain said. "We will return soon."@@@@

"Of course, be careful out there and return in one piece," Meiro said.

"Just do your best and keep your head high, dear," Luana said while gently touching Rain’s chin and moving. "Try to smile a bit more as well."

"No worries," Rain showed a small smile. "Things might be a bit troublesome now, but they will get better eventually."

Rain looked around and saw a bunch of kids, and more would soon come. He felt that it wasn’t the best of conditions, but his kids finally would be able to interact with a bunch of other kids. Hopefully, they will get along well... they were already more or less good friends with Jori and Reca’s kids, after all.

The others said bye to those who would stay behind, but soon, all of them left the underground hideout and eventually jumped on another tunnel that led them directly to the ocean where that giant blue shark island was waiting for them. Rain summoned a giant mist that covered the whole island, and soon they left the area.

After bidding farewell to their children, Rain seemed to regain a semblance of normalcy in his demeanor. However, his wives couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease lingering within them, and they sniffed now and then.

His recent atypical behavior had left them slightly unsettled, almost as if they harbored a subconscious fear that this farewell might be more significant than they wanted to believe. Rain, with his intentions fixed on ensuring everyone’s return, hadn’t explicitly assured them of this, leaving a vague air of uncertainty that weighed upon them.

At the same time, the others wondered why Rain didn’t even try to leave his wives behind... the usual Rain would find a way to convince them to stay behind. Perhaps he had some sort of plan, but they couldn’t say for sure.

While the group was traveling, Rain meditated in silence while thinking of the new tools that they would need and soon he had an idea. Survivability was supposed to be their goal. So, he created a ring and a gem with the information of two skills that he had learned: Barrier and Heal.

"With this ring, you can heal anyone automatically inside the barrier that you will create once you fuse it with mana," Rain said as he passed the ring to Terra. "The barrier will only have the goal to heal those inside, so all the mana infused will be used with that goal. So, focus on positioning yourself to stay out of danger while healing as many people as possible."

"Okay... I tried to do this, but I failed," Terra said after blinking several times. "The ring, I mean."

"The problem should be the amount of mana used and your magic power," Seara said while she showed a ring with a small gem in it. "I have half of his magic power and mana as well, and thanks to that combination, I can only create a gem that is four times smaller..."
