Chapter 126 Deceiving the Demon
Chapter 126 Deceiving the Demon
The moment he swung his sword to parry the demon, before the residual force of the slash had even dissipated, the surrounding dreamscape shattered.
The wooden fortress, the flower tea, the hall—everything before his eyes vanished. Kane woke up to find himself still in the room of the wooden fortress.
He smiled, stood up, pushed open the door, and walked out.
Only two sentries were on duty at the gate; the rest of the guards were fast asleep, drooling even in their dreams.
Seeing this, Kane's opinion of the dream demon dropped even further.
It cannot even pull ordinary first-tier professionals into the dream; it can only unleash its power once inside the dream.
But in actual combat, he might not be as good as the Quassamodo, whom he killed until his hands were sore.
He shook his head, nodded to the two sentries who looked surprised to see him wake up in the middle of the night, and then walked towards the hall.
As he approached the hall, he heard a soft clicking sound coming from inside. A smile appeared on his lips, and he quickened his pace.
In the hall, the prisoners slept peacefully, except for Theresa, who was tied to a chair in the center and gritted her teeth.
She was biting the ropes binding her with her teeth, trying to break free.
But Kane had specifically instructed the mercenaries to tie three tight knots, so no matter how hard she tried, it was no use.
"Damn it! How could this be—how could he be human? He's clearly a drow!"
-
Theresa's curses echoed fiercely, but a gentle voice rang in her mind: "Theresa, stop struggling. Since we can't escape, let's talk to him."
"Don't be silly! How could humans from the material plane possibly possess such an ability? It must be the demon cult trying to kill me!"
Damn it, I have to get out of here! I don't want to be used as raw material for a sacrifice!
Her eyes flashed with ferocity as she strained to tear at the rope, but to no avail.
Finally, exhausted, he fell heavily to the ground, chair and all, with a thud.
Strangely, the prisoners beside him were fast asleep, and none of them were awakened by the noise.
She struggled to move towards the door, inching forward. Just as she was about to touch the door, a look of joy appeared on her face. With a bang, the door was pushed open from the outside, and standing in the doorway was Kane, with a half-smile on his face.
The two looked at each other for a moment, then Theresa opened her mouth and asked in a low voice, "Can I go back now?"
What do you think?
Theresa's face hardened with determination, and she said in a deep voice, "You may hand me over to the demon cult if you wish, but the mortal I possess is innocent."
I hope you can find me another body.
After listening, Kane glanced strangely at the still-sleeping crowd beside him, then looked at her and asked, "What makes you think I'm a member of the Demon Cult?"
Theresa said fiercely, "Stop pretending! You can transform into a human or a drow, and in the dream world of Twin Harbor, you can instantly heal your injured parts."
This means you have at least mastered a similar ability to regenerate flesh and blood!
"Who among the humans of the material plane, besides the demon children of the demon cult, could possess such power?"
Kane pondered for a moment, recalling his origins, and said calmly, "What you said isn't entirely wrong."
Theresa took a deep breath, a knowing look on her face, but then she froze.
Kane had already raised his scimitar and was swinging it at her.
Her heart skipped a beat. Although she claimed she was not afraid of death, she couldn't help but feel a chill when the moment actually came.
But in an instant, she froze again. A flash of light, and the ropes binding her arms snapped, freeing her.
Kane looked at Theresa, who was completely bewildered, and said calmly, "Come back to my room with me and let's continue the conversation we didn't finish in the dream."
Seeing that Theresa was still in a daze, Kane called out another name softly: "Vellancer".
That was the name of the half-elf who taught him the art of scimitar in the dungeon.
Upon hearing this name, Theresa's expression changed drastically, and then her entire demeanor shifted dramatically.
She looked up sharply at Kane, her voice urgent and fervent: "Velancer? He's alive? How is he? I've been waiting for him!"
Kane's expression was strange; it seemed this was the real Theresa.
"Come with me."
Theresa nodded and followed.
The sentries at the door exchanged a glance when they saw Kane bring a woman into the room from among the prisoners.
His eyes revealed a knowing look that said, "As expected, it's Zhuo Er."
Inside the room, Kane and Theresa each sat on a simple three-legged chair.
As soon as they sat down, Theresa eagerly pressed, "How is Vilanser now? What's your relationship with him?"
Kane pondered for a moment, then truthfully replied, "Velancer is my scimitar teacher; he taught me the Susas scimitar technique."
He's doing relatively well now, with a fairly spacious room (cell), a little overweight (he can't move around much in prison), and time to rest after work (he gets some fresh air in prison).
Hearing his ambiguous words, Theresa initially showed joy, but it quickly faded, and she whispered, "Then why doesn't he come back?"
Kane thought to himself that it was because he was imprisoned, but he didn't say much, only saying, "I brought back a letter for him."
"A letter? Where?" Theresa looked up abruptly, her eyes filled with excitement.
Kane's lips twitched, and he told her the truth: he had put the letter in a box at the floating cemetery.
The two exchanged a glance and remained silent.
Needless to say, the letter is probably soaked and ruined by now, making it unreadable.
Kane cleared his throat, breaking the silence: "Ms. Theresa, do you have anywhere to go in Sussas now?"
Seeing Theresa shake her head, Kane nodded and said, "Then would you like to see Velanther? I think he would be very happy to see you."
"Is that okay?" Theresa's eyes lit up with surprise.
Kane nodded and told her that he had acquaintances in the city guard who could take care of the relevant matters. He added, "For the journey back to the City of War, you can contact the Farquaar Merchant Guild. As for the travel expenses, I will provide you with some financial assistance."
He smiled slightly, and Teresa's departure could be seen as repaying the favor he had done for Velanser.
There's no need to worry about the rest.
Theresa's eyes flickered slightly, a hint of gratitude in them, but Kane changed the subject: "However, there's still a hidden danger that I need to make clear to you."
"Hidden danger?" Theresa looked puzzled.
Kane said, "Now the royal representative of the city of war has been bewitched and assassinated by a demon, and the entire city is under martial law."
The royal family has coordinated the deployment of multiple organizations, including the Night Watch, the Mage Tower, and the Lantern Bearers.
If you bring this weak demon into the city, the consequences will be unimaginable if you are discovered.
The meaning behind his words was self-evident, and in Theresa's heart, a vicious curse immediately rose: "You're the weak one! You vulgar, lowly, filthy, and lewd drow!"
Theresa gave a wry smile, and Kane, seeing this, seized the opportunity to suggest, "Could I speak with this Ms. Theresa you're wearing? I'll try my best to find a solution that satisfies both of us."
Theresa remained silent, and Kane didn't seem to mind; he knew she was communicating with the Theresa within her.
After a long pause, Theresa slowly spoke: "Her name is Theresa."
As soon as she finished speaking, she lowered her head, and when she looked up again, her demeanor was completely different; she seemed like a completely different person.
Kane smiled – the main character had finally shown up.
Next, he had to figure out a way to trick this devil into working for him.
