Chapter 72 Road
Chapter 72 Road
In the second week of the new school year, the East District School for Children of Poor Families finally welcomed several new teachers.
They were a second-level assistant priest and three devout believers without a church hierarchy.
Of the three devout believers, two were originally clerical staff at the local police station, and the other was an elderly blacksmith.
The second-level assistant priest was a wealthy businessman, and he even "bought" his title of second-level assistant priest from several previous regional bishops.
Fafner felt quite good about it; these "new" teachers were knowledgeable, had their own methods for dealing with students, and were able to "manage" them.
Their hair was almost all white; they were quite old and should probably be enjoying their retirement at home.
In Mr. Victor's words, most people looked down on the church's meager stipend, and the position offered little future prospects.
Priests and clergymen in their prime, more or less, do not want to retire prematurely.
Apart from the second-level assistant priest who received a rank-based allowance, the other three devout believers only received basic allowances. It's worth noting that they all possessed some elven blood.
They all came from relatively well-off families and came to work at the school for children of the poor simply to represent the church in helping the poor, just like Teacher Anna.
Life returned to normal, and the new teaching building was gradually being constructed.
With the arrival of the four new teachers, Fafnir's work became much easier.
Currently, for regular classes from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, each classroom is staffed by four teachers. For classes from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, the teachers rotate among themselves.
Each rotation will result in an additional copper coin bonus...
Martha and Allen's allowances also increased; they now receive 120 copper coins per month, even though they haven't mastered first-order elemental magic.
The church considered them to be "quasi-supernatural beings" who had mastered meditation and clairvoyance.
Now, Fafnir can focus on his magical training again.
As time went by, the progress of the Fireball spell was displayed in the "ledger" (56/100).
Fafnir sensed that, having reached the halfway point, he could now cast this second-tier elemental spell without any issues related to his proficiency.
Of course, casting it still requires a certain amount of preparation time, unlike first-tier spells which are instantaneous.
You still need to practice more.
Although Fafnir currently has no opportunity to use "Fireball" in his fight,
But the thought of having a second-tier spell with considerable destructive power filled Fafnir with a sense of pleasure and pride.
Hehe, if we really encounter any "crisis" situation, the enemy will definitely relax when they see that I look like a child, and then I'll just blast them in the face with a fireball...
However, as the semester drew to a close, Fafnir's mood began to dip again.
Ever since Mr. Victor's promotion banquet, Fafnir had known that he would have to part ways with Mr. Victor sooner or later.
……
"Hey, my little Fafnir, still practicing magic so late?"
Around 8 PM, Mr. Victor came to visit Fafnir's dormitory again.
"It's still early, Mr. Victor. Good evening."
"How's it going? How's your practice going? Fireball and Spirit Gap Filling? If you don't have enough Spirit Amber, just take some from me."
"Thank you. I now have about fifty spiritual units, and I can almost never make a mistake when casting Fireball."
"Congratulations, Fafnir, little one."
Mr. Victor was pleased: "You have met the requirements for practicing second-order spells."
"Of course, I really didn't expect you to have mastered Fireball to such a near-proficient level. Cast Fireball on me once, let me see."
"Excuse me... is it here?"
"Of course, my little Fafnir, inspire me."
Fafnir closed his eyes, entered a meditative state, and quickly constructed the spell's structure, fully infusing it with spirituality.
A ball of blazing white light appeared in Fafnir's hand, which he unleashed towards Mr. Victor.
In an instant, the ball of light was captured by Mr. Victor using spirit magic.
The activated fireball appeared in Mr. Victor's hand and then dissipated randomly.
"Very good, very good, the power is up to standard, Fafnir. I didn't initially think it was right for you to practice second-tier spells ahead of time."
I didn't expect that perseverance would be so effective; you're really great!
Perhaps you are stronger than I was at ten years old.
Fafnir was quite happy; he hadn't expected Mr. Victor to approve of him so much.
But in reality, he is still far from being an enlightener. The rat-man's unique physique forces him to spend a great deal of energy filling the spiritual gaps.
His current progress in filling the spiritual gaps, as shown in his "ledger," is only at around 2 points.
However, Fafnir used to be able to cast Fireball twice a month, but now he is completely different and can be described as proficient.
"I think you can start practicing some other second-tier spells," Mr. Victor said after thinking for a moment.
"Little Fafnir, do you know what the biggest difference is between an Enlightened One and a preparatory-stage Transcendent?"
Is it a spiritual cycle?
"The spiritual cycle simply allows extraordinary individuals to access more and more stable spiritual energy."
In reality, the second-tier Fireball spell that a preparatory-stage cultivator forcibly casts with all their might is almost identical to the second-tier Fireball spell that an Enlightened One can easily cast through spiritual circulation.
The biggest difference is that the enlighteners have their own unique path.
Mr. Victor paused, seemingly thinking about how to explain the problem.
"The path?" Fafnir asked curiously, as he knew nothing about the subsequent paths to transcendence in his current knowledge.
"This is precisely what is not mentioned in the library's teaching materials, which generally take the successful construction of a spiritual cycle as the standard for enlighteners."
But I believe that those who forge their own path are the true enlighteners.
Fafnir seemed to understand but not quite.
“Cecilia, for example, is a typical example of an enlightened being who only experiences spiritual cycles but hasn’t forged her own path,” Mr. Victor explained.
"She is a pure-blooded elf, and while she worships the sacred elven tree, she also possesses a high affinity for magic, but that's all external..."
"External things?" Fafner didn't quite understand.
"That's right, external things, for example, Cecilia, including Armand, or Viscount Lorraine."
They can use the spells within the Sacred Tree system to forge their bodies through the Sacred Tree's unique elven magic.
Once their rank increases, they can quickly replenish their spiritual energy through branches of the Sacred Tree, teleport to the spirit world, and even perform divination.
In fact, those Enlightened Ones who did not forge their own path are not necessarily weaker; they simply draw their power from external sources…
Mr. Victor smiled slightly and continued:
"But that was the power bestowed upon them by 'Eldrasil'."
But in our Church of the God of Death, there is no God of Death to grant us power.
