Chapter 1025: Orders
The invisible spell raged once more while Khan inspected Monica. A thunder rang in the sky, spreading throughout the encampment below and shaking the nearby tents' fabric. Even the dust on the street trembled, and the audience was no exception.
Nevertheless, the cloud suddenly dispersed when Khan saw Monica shake. He noticed her trying her best to keep her capeless bow still, but the spell had spoken to her survival instincts, making her attempt hopeless. Khan couldn't describe how wrong that felt, so his ability vanished.@@@@
Then, Khan walked out of the gory puddles, his steps softer and more graceful. He quickly reached Monica, who was still immersed in her capeless bow. Yet, the gentle hand that reached her cheek forced her to raise her head to look up to her Fiancé.
"Never bow to me," Khan ordered. "Your place is at my side."
Khan was still terrifying in Monica's eyes. Her very body told her she was in the presence of something overwhelming and superior. However, the blue light that enveloped her gave birth to a conflicting sentiment. As monstrous as Khan had become, he still belonged to her.
Monica straightened her back, suppressing a happy sob and the urge to jump on Khan. She wanted nothing more than to hide on his chest, wrapping herself in his fearsome but gentle touch. However, the situation had no room for affectionate gestures, and Monica's feelings couldn't distract Khan from his duties.
Obviously, Khan read Monica like an open book and shared her feelings. However, Khan didn't care about the tense situation and pulled Monica toward him without any hesitation. She didn't even realize when her face hit Khan's chest, but her eyes instinctively closed to enjoy the moment.
Khan kept Monica on him, his bandaged hand immersed in her curls. His aura grew more dangerous while he ran his glowing eyes over the audience. Monica was safe with him, but the desire to protect her inevitably worsened his stance toward those battle-ready guests.
Truth be told, the audience didn't only have opposing factions trying to benefit from Khan's perplexing decision. Luke and the others were Khan's friends, and the same went for a few nobles. Khan didn't want to be harsh on them, so he didn't.
The other representatives didn't voice complaints, and Khan let them have that façade of authority. They believed Khan was giving them face, appreciating the gesture, but he just didn't care enough to correct their statements.
"I'll meet with the esteemed nobles after settling things with my family," Khan continued. "In the meantime, ..."
Khan glanced at the Global Army's group again. Brigadier General Seycomb had already suffered a loss but could classify the incident as political. Khan now represented the Empire, and four lives were inconsequential to the relationship with that species of warmongers. Mister Cirvags didn't share Brigadier General Seycomb's compromising stance but remained silent. That wasn't his time to speak. Everyone could only respond once Khan made his statements.
"The Global Army has one day," Khan declared. "Refusal will be seen as a statement of its stance."
Khan let go of Monica, who started to step aside, only for her feet to leave the metal floor. Khan had picked her up, princess-carrying her while slowly rising into the air.
"Return to your duties," Khan ordered, glancing at his relatives. "I'll take care of everything myself."
Khan's words left no room for complaints. Alexander, Prince Thomas, and Princess Rebecca didn't exactly agree with Khan's political move, but those conversations had no place in such a public situation, so they followed his orders.
"As for you," Khan continued, looking past the crowd. "I expect you to leave my planet with the Excellencies' ride. I'll kill you otherwise."
The audience followed the direction of Khan's gaze while he rose higher in the sky. A dirty middle-aged man had appeared at some distance behind the crowd, sitting near one of the tents, seamlessly blending with the environment.
'Truly, truly frightening,' Bruno thought, tilting his head to look at the sky from behind his greasy hair. For once, his peaceful expression seemed to have turned serious.
