Khan's statement had been closer to a threat than a reassurance, but the three Royal Guards didn't mind it. If anything, they accepted it as part of Khan's being. It was as if they knew he couldn't help himself.
That unspoken acceptance felt strange. Khan had experienced a trace of it when meeting the Nognes family's evolved warriors, but the Royal Guards went beyond that. There was no wariness among the group. The Emperor had elevated Khan to Lord, so the Royal Guards saw him as one of their own.
Khan had no idea how to conciliate that feeling with his desperation. That deep, bottomless emotion constantly raged inside him, but the friendly and understanding environment seemed to appease him temporarily.
However, Zedekiel was a secluded place in the universe, hidden from the problems that crowded it. Khan had a big mess waiting for him at home, and he didn't know how he would react to it.
Of course, part of Khan hoped things would go smoothly. As extreme as he was, he was no mindless killer. Yet, something would probably tick him off, and the world would suffer.
'So what?' Khan thought, wild urges filling him as soon as he thought about his potential adversaries. 'If they think of trying anything, I'll break them.'
"[Lord Blue Shaman]," Lord Envoy called, and Khan snapped out of his dark thoughts. Unknowingly, his aura had started to intensify, messing with the Royal Guard's technique. Causing problems right after reassuring the Royal Guards wasn't ideal, but the trio didn't care. Lord Envoy continued preparing his spell, closing his eyes and forming an oblique cross with his hands. His mana suddenly filled the area, enveloping the group into an isolated spherical space.
The world in Khan's vision and senses changed in the following second. The broken black floor turned intact and red, and tall pillars stood at his sides, connecting the vast hall to the ceiling above. The group had returned to the Royal Palace, bringing some metallic dust with them.
The past lack of hunger seemed to have disappeared, and Khan even struggled to recall it. He felt unnaturally famished, and his mindset regressed to his time in the Slums. He would stuff as much food as possible into his stomach as if to prepare for the winter season.
As famished as Khan was, he was one step behind the Royal Guards. Lord Mighty and Lord Blind Sword released a hoarse cry simultaneously, approaching one of the tables from opposite sides.
Lord Enforcer also moved. His eyes didn't betray emotions, but his actions told a different story since he went to the table with the tallest pile of food.
Only Lord Envoy and Lord Rsi remained on their spot, but the banquet clearly tempted the former. The Royal Guard studied it with his calm eyes before making an announcement to bring everyone up to date.
"[The Emperor declared Khan from humankind as Lord Blue Shaman]," Lord Envoy announced, "[Special Emissary of the Empire on a classified mission across the universe]!"
Lord Envoy's calm voice had been unnaturally loud, but nothing could surpass Lord Mighty's following cry. The huge Thilku already had a customary bottle in his hand, lifting it as if it were a mere cup to shout a toast. "[To Lord Blue]!"
"[To Lord Blue Shaman]!" Lord Enforcer and Lord Blind Sword followed. "[To Lord Special Emissary]."
At that point, Lord Envoy didn't waste time in pleasantries anymore and approached one of the tables, sitting at Lord Blind Sword's right. Khan had also reached the banquet by then, but Lord Rsi had yet to move.
Khan didn't know whether customs didn't allow Lord Rsi at that banquet but didn't care. He pointed at the other side of his table and spoke as if the place belonged to him.
"[Join us, My Lord]," Khan invited, his words almost sounding like an order.
