Chapter 322: Together
Chapter 322: Together
Yanai’s room was spotless and orderly. The furnishings were simple, yet nearly everything inside had been chosen according to Nina’s preferences. A vanity table, a spacious wardrobe, and countless small details had all been specially crafted for her.
For this occasion, he had decorated the room with extra care.
Fresh flowers and lush greenery that Nina loved adorned every corner. Delicate ornaments had been thoughtfully arranged throughout the space. The old bedding had been replaced with soft new furs, and thick carpets covered the floor. Scattered flower petals rested atop the rugs, filling the room with a gentle, pleasant fragrance.
One side of the room was piled high with beast crystals, jewelry, fine furs, and other treasures. These were additional gifts he had prepared for her. As for the rest of his beast crystals, he had already handed them over to Nina long ago.
Yanai carefully set Nina down on the bed.
"Nina, do you like the way I’ve arranged everything?" he asked eagerly. "If there’s anything you don’t like, tell me and I’ll replace it immediately."
After all, he had prepared countless options. This was simply the arrangement he thought she would enjoy most.
Nina looked around the room and smiled.
"I like it very much."
Everything reflected her tastes perfectly. She could easily see how much effort and thought he had poured into every detail.
Yanai’s expression brightened.
"That’s good."
He then produced several sets of special clothing and held them up for her inspection.
"Nina, which one would you like to see me wear today?"
Nina glanced over the options and casually selected one.
Truthfully, they were all rather similar in their own way.
Without wasting a second, Yanai changed into the chosen outfit. He then returned to her side, wrapped an arm around her waist, and pressed a kiss to her cheek.
"Nina," he murmured warmly, "shall we begin our special day together?"
Nina glanced outside.
"Isn’t it a little early?"
"Not at all," Yanai replied immediately. "You should have more faith in me."
The rest of the evening passed in warmth and intimacy as the newly bonded pair celebrated their union together.
Outside, Setan stood watch beneath the night sky.
His gaze lingered on the tightly closed door, loneliness filling his heart.
The wolf had finally become Nina’s mate.
Even that troublesome fish had earned Nina’s acknowledgment.
But what about him?
Would his turn ever come?
After standing there for a long time, he finally turned away and continued his patrol.
Meanwhile, in Lex’s room, Lani had come to speak with his son.
"Lex, has Nina accepted you?" he asked.
Lex lowered his eyes.
"She said she’s willing to give me a chance. We’re only trying to get to know each other right now. She hasn’t fully accepted me yet."
Lani sighed.
"Lex, if Nina is willing to give you a chance, are you still going to hide everything from her? I really don’t think this is the right thing to do."
Truthfully, he hated lying to Nina.
"I know..." Lex hesitated. "I know you’re right, but... Father, let me think about it a little longer."
Being with Nina made him happier than he had ever imagined possible. But in only a few days, his appearance would begin to change.
And when that happened... Would he still have the courage to face her?
"Think carefully," Lani urged. "Don’t throw away such a hard-earned opportunity. Nina is a wonderful female. Maybe she truly won’t care."
"I know," Lex replied softly.
Yet even if Nina accepted him exactly as he was, he still could not overcome the battle within his own heart.
Lani opened his mouth, then closed it again.
From Lex’s perspective, he understood the struggle all too well.
Finally, he sighed.
"I won’t persuade you anymore. Make your own decision."
With that, he left the room.
Once he was alone, Lex took out the pearl garments and jewelry he had painstakingly crafted for Nina.
He sat there staring at them for a very long time.
Could he really tell her the truth?
The thought alone made his chest ache.
Because no matter how hard he tried to convince himself otherwise, he simply could not bear the idea of losing this happiness.
The next morning, Yanai woke early.
Looking down at Nina sleeping peacefully in his arms, a deep sense of contentment filled him.
His hand brushed his forehead as a smile spread across his face.
At last, he had become Nina’s mate.
His gaze drifted to her flushed cheeks. The longer he looked, the more captivated he became.
Before he knew it, his heart was racing all over again.
A while later, Nina slowly woke. Still half asleep, she opened her eyes only to find Yanai staring at her with burning intensity.
Instinctively, she leaned back slightly.
"What are you thinking about?"
Yanai wrapped an arm around her waist and grinned.
"Nothing important."
Nina immediately narrowed her eyes in suspicion.
Before he could continue teasing her, she pushed herself upright.
"I promised the children I’d take them to the sea today."
Yanai sighed dramatically.
"What a pity."
Still, he behaved himself.
After helping Nina get dressed and assisting her with her morning routine, the two of them finally left the room together.
The moment they stepped outside, they found Lex already waiting nearby.
Clearly, he had been there for quite some time.
"Good morning, Lex," Nina greeted with a smile.
Lex smiled back in return.
Yanai cast him a brief glance before taking Nina’s hand and leading her toward breakfast.
Why was that fish standing outside their door so early in the morning?
Lex silently fell into step behind them.
After breakfast, Nina took the children out once again.
This time, she and Lex spent the entire day exploring the sea with the little ones. Aside from Aviel and Idir, none of the other mates joined them. They remained on shore, waiting for Nina’s return.
They had no interest in the ocean depths and liked seawater even less.
The day passed quickly.
On the third morning, Finch emerged holding Nina’s hand.
The moment Nina stepped outside, she spotted Lex waiting at the entrance once again.
A hint of surprise crossed her face.
Why was he standing here again?
The instant Lex saw her, he hurried forward and began gesturing eagerly.
Nina watched carefully, piecing together his meaning.
"You want to take me to the sea today?"
Lex nodded.
Then he gestured again.
"Just the two of us?"
He nodded once more.
Nina considered it briefly.
"Alright. Let me eat breakfast first."
Since they had decided to try getting to know each other properly, spending time alone together seemed perfectly reasonable.
As she looked at him, another thought surfaced.
She really needed to find a way to restore his voice.
Communicating like this was far too inconvenient.
She still had no idea what had caused him to lose it in the first place. Perhaps later she could ask him more about it and see whether there was a way to help.
Lex’s smile immediately brightened.
She had agreed.
As long as Nina was willing to go with him, he would gladly wait not just through breakfast, but for as long as it took.
After finishing her meal, Nina informed the others where she was going before leaving with Lex.
The mates exchanged somewhat sour looks.
"This fish is way too clingy," Mino grumbled. "For the past two days, he’s practically monopolized Nina."
Being together in the sea was one thing. But even after coming back, he still never left her side.
"I agree," Kith said. "It feels like he’s watching her every second of the day."
Odian folded his arms.
"Forget it. Nina said she wants to try getting to know him. We’ll give him a few more days. If he’s still acting like this afterward, then we’ll intervene."
"Agreed," Sal replied.
The others nodded as well.
They could tolerate it for now, but they certainly could not let it continue forever.
Meanwhile, Lex led Nina deep beneath the sea.
Together they swam through towering underwater cliffs and winding passages.
After some time, a faint glow appeared in the distance.
Lex took Nina’s hand and guided her toward it.
Soon, they arrived before a narrow cave entrance hidden among the rocks.
"This is where you wanted to bring me?" Nina asked curiously.
She could not imagine why he would bring her to an underwater cave.
Lex nodded and gently led her inside.
The moment they entered, Nina’s eyes widened.
The cave concealed an entirely different world.
Countless underwater plants glowed in brilliant shades of blue, violet, green, and gold. They swayed gently with the currents, filling the cavern with a dreamlike radiance.
The entire space looked as though it belonged in a fantasy.
"Wow."
Nina could not help staring in amazement.
"This place is beautiful."
She had never imagined such a breathtaking location existed beneath the sea.
A radiant smile spread across Lex’s face.
Holding her hand, he guided her through the cavern, showing her one wondrous sight after another.
This place had always been his secret refuge.
For years, it had belonged only to him.
Today, he wanted to share that secret with Nina.
Nina was clearly delighted.
Every time she spotted a particularly beautiful plant, she immediately started considering whether she could bring one home and cultivate it herself.
Watching her excitement filled Lex with quiet happiness.
Throughout the day, the smile never left his face.
They remained inside the cave for a long time before he led her to several other hidden locations beneath the sea.
Together, they spent the entire day exploring.
Only when evening finally arrived did Lex bring Nina back to shore.
He carefully helped her onto a stretch of seaside rocks.
The cool ocean breeze drifted across the water while countless stars glittered overhead.
Worried that she might be cold, Lex quickly wrapped a thick fur cloak around her shoulders.
Then he hesitated.
After a long pause, he finally reached into his storage pouch.
Carefully, almost reverently, he took out the pearl garments and jewelry he had crafted himself.
Cradling them in both hands, he presented them to Nina.
His heart pounded with anticipation and anxiety.
Would she accept them this time?
At the same time, another question tormented him.
Tonight...
Should he finally tell her the truth?
